Clean water in brooder

I looked on Amazon and realized I would not be able to place a nipple drinker in my brooding bin. Everything either hangs or screw on, and I just use a grey storage bin.

I hang the waterer from an S hook with chain. every few days I move the S hook to raise the waterer to keep it at their shoulder height. Never any spills, never any shavings.

That sounds pretty good......But my bin is not set up for that, and especially not for when they start flying! I'll be brooding in my house.

This is my setup that I previously used for one batch of 6 chicks, and then a second batch of 2 chicks. Now I’ll be using it for 4 chicks.

I would set it up on some wood blocks to raise it above the bedding level. It will help some.

Ok, well if I considered buying a nipple waterer, how would you teach them that's where the water is? I would only use it for chicks, and I'll go check prices on amazon right now.

Teaching them is so easy! Just tap the nipple with your finger. One of them will investigate, and then others will follow. Once you see some of them drinking from it, take their other waterer away. I put the regular waterer back in for a few minutes a couple of times a day in case someone really didn’t get it and needed water - after two days I stopped that and everyone was just fine. I felt so much better knowing their water is always clean and not having to worry that someone knocked it over while I am out....

Tub, box, whatever you have it's easy to hang feeders and waterers. Drill or cut notches at the top of the bin, slide in a dowel, straightened coat hanger or whatever you have. Secure the ends outside the box so it can't fall. Hang from that.

The s hook and chain idea works. I use a big zip tie and give it a few clicks a day to raise things as they grow.

But the problem is that we already cut out the majority of the lid and put mesh over it so we could look down at them and they can't fly out when they get older.
