Cleaner for Dog Messes?

actually, i might would spray down the carpet with just undiluted nature's miracle. let that soak... maybe even overnight. THEN use the shampooer over that. A trick I have used for stubborn stains is to soak the area in NM, then put a damp(not wet) towel over it, so that the enzymes have longer to do their work before it dries. I don't know how you could do that over the whole floor though.

Nature's Miracle is really good and you could also save money by using white vinegar. Avoid cleaners with ammonia though because that smells like urine and will encourage the dog to return to the same spot. Another thing that you could do is to use a blacklight bulb in a regular lamp and make sure that it's really dark. Any remaining urine stains will fluoresce so that you can get every little spot.

It wasn't MY dog that did it.

Thankfully the house doesn't come with the pittbulls that wrecked it. Our dog's usually outside, but she sleeps in my bedroom. My husband is weird like that. She wouldn't be downstairs, so it's highly doubtful she'd tinkle down there.

But thanks again for even more replies. Will that towel trick work on the tile? Most of the mess is inside the dining room and bonus room. They're tiled. Half the bonus room isn't finished, there's plywood flooring down with a drain hole in it, since it was built for a kennel. The pitts tore big holes and chewed the sheetrock from 4ft and down. It's a mess in there. I want to knock the whole thing off, since they built it wrong to begin with... but DH wants to keep it for a darn game room for a pool table and junk. Ugh.

Clean, but there is paint you can buy to seal in odors, I do not know the name of it off hand but I would find out. I would seal the grout also to seal in any odors after you clean it.

To seal the odors use Killz primer. We had a subfloor that was saturated with cat pee and that sealed away the smell. If it worked on that, it'll work on anything.

I don't know how much carpet you will be salvaging, but this is my favorite recipe for cleaning my carpets. It is a lot cheaper than buying the premixed for my carpet shampooer. I think it works better than the commercial stuff I have bought. Make sure you test a spot first for color fastness.
1/4 cup lemon-scented ammonia
1/4 cup white vinegar
3 teaspoons ivory Joy dishwashing soap or any clear Joy dishwashing soap (non-moisturizer) I use what I have on hand, never had an issue.
hot water

1.Stir together the first 3 ingredients into a large (gallon-plus sized) container.
2.Add water; enough to equal one gallon.
3.Follow steam-cleaner manufacturer's directions for operating instructions.
I usually make a little less water for more concentration. Good luck!

SIMPLE GREEN works great also..or OXINE but it is expensive and you will probably have to order it..I use both in my carpet steamer

Wow, this really popped up out of the blue. I posted this in May before we moved.

We shampooed the upstairs carpets several times, oxycleaned the spots and covered them with area rugs until we redo the upstairs in the spring. The addition and dining room were awful, so they're being torn down and started again from scratch. The living room and kitchen have been hardwood floored, we tore out 8 layers of subflooring.
We sealed everything in 3 coats of Zinsser B-I-N primer, then painted 2 coats of color on. No more smells.

Thank you for all the advice
