Cleaning your waterer

ACV will oxidize metal waterers, only use it in plastic. My waterers break down into two pieces. I keep a scrub brush and spray bottle full of diluted bleach by the hose. I scrub them twice a day usually and add a little ACV. I add the ACV by sight and smell. I think it's about two tbsp. My BF thinks I clean up after the animals too much. I'm starting to think he's right.

Vinegar will break down the metal waterers, so it is true only use apple cider vinegar in plastic waterers. This also helps algae from not growning in the tanks.

I have a 2" dowel on a chain that hangs over the waterer. This keeps them from roosting on top of the waterer as they hate to fly into the stick because it hits them if they fly up to roost.

Thanks for all the different ideas!

I'll go look for a big bottle of ACV and use it when I clean. I never thought about a cone on top.

My other biggest problem is I can't get the top off! My son will fill te waterer for me sometimes and he must put a little extra twist on it and when it's my turn to clean and fill......ARGHHH!!!! I have to kneel on the bottle, pinning it to the ground and muscle it off. And of course, he's never around to help when I have this problem.

I wash my waters once a wk with dish detergent. At least once a month I'll wash them with bleach. Then every once in awhile I'll give the chickens apple cider vinegar in their water just to keep them healthy. We've had alot of rain this year and I've noticed the waterers get green slime on them because of this really quickly most yrs I haven't had to wash them as frequently as this yr.

I have a spray bottle of vinegar water hanging in the coop to clean the waterers. I clean the auto waterer everyday but the other one once a week. Once a month I clean the waterers and feeders with bleach water then let them dry in the sun for a few hours.

I change the water out and clean them every day. Since they are small waterers I use just a little bit of bleach. It has helped.
