Hi, I'm raising chickens for the first time and they are ready to go outside. should I clip their wings so they don't fly into trees and become unreachable? or is this a dumb question. thank you.

I never clip wings but your situation may vary from mine. Sometimes it may be necessary.
Keep them locked in the coop for a few days so they imprint on where it is safe to sleep. Then when they start venturing out, they will go back in on their own at dusk and you won't need to catch them.

The only reason I've ver felt the need to clip wings is when certain chickens decide they like to jump the fence more than one or two times. If I start having a problem with chickens jumping the fence, then I start clipping the wings of the ones that have gotten over before putting them back in. My chickens free range during all seasons except for summer so sometimes, they aren't that thrilled when their electric fence shows up in the late spring.
