If you guys can even believe it, this just got worse. Another neighbor's 2 dogs barreled into the yard and the big one grabbed and mauled Ellie right at the entrance to her run where I was letting them stretch for a few minutes. I am not sure if she is going to make it.
My neighbor saw it happen and chased the dogs off and carried Ellie to my door where my friend (ex-DH) happened to just be entering. He took off to search the neighborhood for the dogs while I tended to Ellie. After searching the neighborhood he found the dogs about to attack someone's dog and he has one tied to a tree. The other is on standby, uncatchable but not leaving. We are waiting for animal control to show up. Found out they belong to someone on my block who knows I have these beloved pet birds. I am angry enough to do and say unspeakable things.
I've been holding Ellie awhile to try to get her through initial shock - her head dropped and eyes closed and I was afraid I was losing her. Then after quite awhile of calming and comforting her (and administering Rescue Remedy) I put her in my bathroom (after I quickly put down a bunch of straw) with BJ as she is finding him a great comfort and he was beside himself looking for her. She is warm and safe. Can't find the flipping betadine so I have to go get some to dilute with water to clean the wounds before applying neosporin- I saw one bleeding area and didn't want to stress her with an exam to look for other wounds till she calmed down. She seems to be having trouble with her right leg. There is also blood in her eye - not sure what's with that.
I AM SO ANGRY ABOUT DOG ATTACKS I COULD JUST SCREAM.

The other dogs are in quarantine at home for the next few days (hopefully) so I thought we could finally relax a bit - first warm day in many - let them stretch. So much for that.
