THANK YOU. THANK YOU for your good company and good wishes.
Spoke with the vet today and he added antibiotic to the mix just in case of infection. She was on Sulfratrim last week after the surgery and now he put her on Cipro (which I don't seem to read about much on BYC....). The stuff is wicked sticky and she's supposed to have 1ml a.m. and 1ml p.m. One drop at a time it's a longggggggggggg process and she really stresses a lot by half way through. Poor thing. The pharmacy is a compounding center and they added blueberry flavoring since she likes blueberries but she's not buying it. I need a long shower after each session because she makes sure I end up with antibiotic all over me.
Peter Brown came to mind but I am reluctant to bother him because not long ago he helped me when BJ suddenly had a large lump (improved now) and I'm reluctant to take up more of his time if possible to avoid doing so.
Ellie is pretty much self-immobilizing because she is very uncomfortable with moving. When she tries she ends up going in circles because the right side gives out and only the left is working.
The weather is grizzly and plans to stay that way for awhile so there is nothing to cheer these poor birds up right now.
I have a draft of a letter (and bills) for the people who let their dogs cause Ellie all this torment but haven't sent it yet since the situation keeps evolving.
I hope so very much to see Ellie looking even a teeny bit better tomorrow but realize it may be too much to hope because we don't know what to treat for.
Can you give injections yourself ? It is a lot easier to administer a shot than give medication orally (unless it is in the water).
An oral medication that is somewhat easy is a capsule. You can wrap it in something they like and they usually don't notice when they gulp it down (Bread is good, or slip it inside a blueberry). It is a lot less stressful for both of you.
I had a hen with a nasty huge gaping hole in her side from a dog attack. So mom got some iodine from the vet and we mixed it with water, and sprayed it in the wound every day, and it took a month to heal. I think the iodine really helped the wound heal and also, hydrotherapy, (cleaning with water solution daily)
Cipro the stuff that I took to get rid of my 4 month sinus infection...It's hard core stuff. Make sure she has yoghurt or her tummy will be all askew. It's the stuff they used for the Anthrax attacks too.
We got a foot of white stuff. With more coming down still, another storm tomorrow too. Ernie's home so Obelisk can't come in either and she's fluffed up like a ticked off porcupossum.

Dont forget to send them a copy of this law and to charge them triple the vet bill plus the $10! That should get their attention.
I hope Ellie recovers.
On another note, grading or making changes to one's property such that it floods another property (whether done consciously or not) violates state laws in most areas and probably federal as well. Get an attorney who specializes in Real Estate law and land use. Dont delay, though, because there are usually statutes of limitation considerations.
I just got my January/February issue of Hobby Farms magazine and they have an excellent article on predation of your livestock by a neighbors dog or dogs. It gives step by step procedures as to what you need to do.
Judy, S.C. is right. Cipro is tough stuff. It's what wiped out Zane's hock infection for a long, long time. Very powerful! I hope you can get Ellie to take it somehow.
