FDR and Truman were presidents during the war and the depression. Hoover was another Great Depression president, and didn't do anything to help it. It was a while before Daddy Bush came into office

However Elder Bush was a soldier as well.

FDR was also responsible for creating jobs at home, sending men to beautify parks, making highways, etc. The Depression occured in 1929 and it had a lasting effect which FDR wanted to change things for the better. He probably was not well liked but people had jobs, he created Social Security benefits and other good things for the people. Also the job positions were plentiful because the soldiers overseas have lost their lives. The numbers of soldiers were huge but nothing like the Civil War which so many men died in both sides outnumbered the losses of WWII soldiers. Imagine how the families and widowers were left to defend themselves when Lincoln didn't do anything to assist them until FDR came in the picture. For those CW widowers, the number of women outdid the number of men and for those who had survived the war came back broke, lost their farms and livehoods and their families moving in with the inlaws or close siblings of families. The widowers had to remarry quickly in order to save her deceased husband's farm if she wanted to keep it for her sake and her family. Now that is real depression during that time and jobs were scarce for a while because the plantation farms had to either pay the slaves for their wages or let them go. It was a very very tough life for them. Confederate dollars were worth nothing while the currency of Union or US money was like gold. It was not too long after that, the lands out in KS or Indian territories in certain areas were free for grabs as long they stay on the farm, toll their living for five years. Many of them went westward to find better money and many of them died or went broke trying to find land or gold.

We humans are funny beings. If our ancestors can survive this, so can we!

Duh- I forgot all about the Tennesee Valley Authority.

If I was 18 at the time of the election, I would have voted for Gore instead of Bush. I WAS rooting for Gore in the first place. Seems to be that Bush was only thinking about what was going on in the middle east, he has forgotten about the people HERE as well. That's just sad. Now look at how things are going. He raised gas prices so strikingly high when he OWNS oil wells in TEXAS and ALASKA but instead he shut those down? This is what Im hearing but I could be missing something, it is hard to get good news reports when not NEWS are rarely captioned and newspapers dont tell the depts.

Lets not make this into that kind of discussion.

BUT- Bush was the GREATEST at protecting us from aliens! And those awful tree-huggers! If you didn't notice- there was not a single alien attack while he was in office. Awesome!

CC have their own little evils and sometimes the words from the person or narrator does not match up with the CC. Looks like someone is trying to do some "shorthand" typing with the subjects. Nothing frustrates me more. Newspapers are a good deal. I never voted for Bush, both men. The only time I voted since then was Reagan was in office for the first round and then I voted again for Obama.

I think Obama has alot on his plate...the stress cracks, agings are starting to show. Poor guy got the crap from previous mess that Bush did pile up all those years and now we have to clean up the mess. It is going to take us longer to get out of the recession. I dont know how his advisors can help him if he was to take on the same steps as FDR. I honestly dont know if Obama CAN use FDR;s methods of getting out of the recession when we are so broke.

If america does discover a cost efficient life changing way to "Go Green" and it has possibility to help save the planet from pollutions and open up more jobs do you think we would do it?
It would probly change the way the goverment regulates things now and seeing that people are getting upset about how the government is 'banning plasmas' do you think change can come peacefully?
