Closed gate!

Yea, and you shouldn't HAVE to. But that might be the only way to keep the 'undesirables' out. That, or rig up some kind of water squirting mechanism when ever someone you don't like goes to open the gate. That would be kind of rewarding!

Or have a fake skunk on a rope that comes out and pretends to squirt the intruders.

Our last house had a small backyard so we'd spend a lot of time in the front. The street was straight and long so you could see them coming from a mile away. If I did, I would take all three of my dogs and tie them up in the front yard. THAT keeps everyone away!

Your house sounds like mine with the dogs. I have 16 dogs, all of them were throw aways. I have both inside and outside dogs. Anyway when all the dogs are asleep and snoring its like heaven on earth. Theres really nothing better. I don't have a gate but when someone pulls into my driveway that clearly isn't welcome the noise becomes unreal. Its so bad that I want to go out and hurt the person invading our space and stealing my quiet time from me.

Our sigh say "Forget the dog, beware of owner."
