Closed gate!

Some people do not respect gates or the concept of private property or traffic laws. I once had one guy pull in my front yard and ride his ATV all the way to the back where I was at. He had a tag on the four wheeler that said 4 wheeling for Christ. He told me God said I would not mind if he rode over my grass. I told him God lied to him now get that thing off my property without damaging any grass. Those ATVs are by law offroad use only. He had to ride some busy roads to get to my area.

Ugh, god may not mind, but you do. Really why do people try to sell religion door to door like a vaccumm?

we had jahova witnesses come to our house... we had the gates locked .. no tresspassing signs up all over the place even on the front gates and huge dogs loose in the front yard and they would climb thru the fence anyway...

I actually wanted to put up a sign just like this. DH justs wants to answer the door in his"tighty-whities". We however haven't gotten any religious solicitation since we got our big black Giant Schaunzer/Airdale mix. I always used to send them across the street to our neighbor who is a minister.

I understand that solicitors of any kind intrude on your privacy and can be annoying. I had an experience just the other day when one came literally pounding on my front door with an extremely hard sell and conman attitude. I felt unhappy when she left because of her tactics. If she would have just simply said, "I'm earning money this summer for my education. Would you like to contribute by purchasing this overpriced bottle of great stuff to help me out?" I would have felt much better about it. Regardless, I treated her firmly yet with kindness and respect.
However, missionaries of most any kind wearing any color of clothing only have the best of intentions and motive. They may at times lack judgement on which gate to walk through or not and they never claim to be perfect themselves but they deserve simple respect and kindness like anyone else does. How about a simple but firm...Not Interested. Please don't come back. You could even go a little further with...Not Interested in your message, but you look hot, would you like a glass of water before you leave.
Just my personal feelings on the matter.

Classy response!

I just tell the solicitors that I do not buy from door to door salespeople, because I have never received the items. The religious people I say sorry I'm just not interested. And wish them well. Last August I had one guy ask if he could sit in my front yard in the shade. Said he hadn't eaten all day, and was feeling a little ill. I told him I'd make him a sandwich if he'd not try to sell me anything. He took me up on the offer.

2 weeks ago a woman was going door to door looking for someone to borrow a BBQ. She was with the local little league team and they were hosting another team from out of town and wanted to bbq hot dogs at the ball park across the street, after the game. She didn't have the means to bring one. I let her borrow mine. She returned it after the game spotless. And brought me hot dogs as a thank you.

That being said it is a little pushy to go through a closed gate!

Imp- I don't BBQ, I was kinda hoping she'd steal my old BBQ, so I could get rid of it.

I agree! Girl Scout Cookies are a must! Normally they do not make it to my door......I have already found the nearest Girl Scout and bought the cookies already.

I totally understand your point of view and agree that treating anyone who comes knocking on my door with kindness and respect is my intention. That said however, I often find that telling missionaries "not interested" doesn't work. They continue to try and educate me whether I want or need to be educated. I initially try to be polite, but when they continue to come to my door week after week even when I have made it clear I am not interested in their message, then I will start to be rude.

I've posted this before, but my mom painted me a beautiful sign that says 'welcome, you have 5 seconds to state your business' in pretty script and has flowers and stuff on it. It's hysterical.

At my old place, I had tons of solicitors. I have a really protective, aggressive dog, so usually opening the door and saying 'you don't want to be here' while she went totally crazy worked wonders.

I did have one who harassed my dog through the windows thinking I was not home, so I called the cops on him because he seemed like a psycho in the making.

Now, I live way out in the middle of nowhere and have only had one drop-by in the past year. Even the neighbors don't go past the end of your drive in this area, and they sometimes arrive on horseback!
