Cloudy Days in the Coop - My Adventures with Chickens.

Pics
Well, one very long second later, here are the pictures. It’s been a brisk 30 degrees Fahrenheit day, with clear skies save for some wispy clouds. My chickens have been enjoying the beautiful day free-ranging in the autumn-tinged leaves and munching on pumpkins and grubs they've found in the forest. I did save a poor salamander that Emily was trying to eat - she was very grumpy with me after that, but it was so pretty!

Gorgeous!

Oh, and we finally got frost here!
... And an inch-thick layer of ice in pretty much every container that had standing water in it.
The birds have been poofed all day, the sweethearts.

Oh burr, 30° is freezing!! Sunshine always helps on cold days though. At least it LOOKS warm. :p

Oh no, poor Salamander! Was he ok? He sure is pretty! :love My chickens always go after the Lizards here. I am always saving the ones that get into the run, I love Lizards and hate to see a chicken eating one. :(

Beautiful photos Starburst, your flock and territory are extraordinary!! :love Thanks for sharing!! :)

30 degrees is nothing next to 10 degrees! :D

I’m afraid the Salamander may not have made it, but hopefully it did. :fl By the time I got there, Emily had ripped off some of its tail, and it had raw flesh. I gently carried it to a hidden, shaded area and hoped for the best.

Thank you! My chickens are certainly enjoying the day! :)

You did good by the Salamander, we do what we can to save them.

Is it going to warm up tomorrow for you? We may barely get out of the 40s tomorrow, but sunny and dry.

Glad to hear all is well over there (minus the salamander)! Starburst, have you tried entering your photos in the 2021 BYC calendar? I have seen you post several very promising ones!

ETA: maybe I'll take out the good-quality camera sometime and try to get some pics. You are inspiring ;)

Yes, sadly I found the Salamander had passed away where I had left it, so I buried it in the spot where I’d put it, where it is nice and dark, just like how the Salamanders like it.

It’s in the high 30’s, low 40’s today, so definitely warmed up a little! Plenty of frost, however. :)

I did enter one picture earlier of baby Mochi, the picture that is usually my profile picture. (Just not right now. :D). I didn't get around to entering any others, but thank you very much!

Reading that really touched my heart! I highly encourage you take some pictures - it’s extremely fun to do, and, as I always say when I look at a blurry picture I took - ”No matter what, it’s always a work of art!”

Awww....poor little guy Salamander. Chickens are vicious! :D These things happen.

Oooh, I love frost! We had a bit this morning too. Got up to 53 today, I think this week will be in the 50s for highs.

Hope you and your flock had a fabulous day today! :)
