Poor little fellow was 'born' this a.m. with a club foot .. it trips over it when it walks --- will it straighten out on it's own?

Been feeding it with a syringe of chick crumble mashed into some water b/c it can't get to the water dish.

The lady who sold me the eggs said vitamin E will help ? -- is there an elixor for that?

If it's splay legged, you might try cup therapy. Put the chick in a cup that gives it just enough space to stand properly. Give it breaks, make sure it's not getting cold or hot, and gets enough food and water.

Another thing that might help is band therapy where you take a bandaid and make little hobbles that keep the legs in proper position.

If the chick responds to either therapy, great. If it doesn't, you should cull.

What you need for the chick is riboflavin vitamin B 2, and the easiest way to get that is to get some human super B complex tablets, and give 1/4 tablet daily. Crush it and dissolve it in a spoonful of water and give that with a dropper. Most drug stores, Walmart, Sams and Costco carry them.

How long do you think it will take before the leg turns out normal again?

@Nabiki - it's not splay leg, it's a turned in club foot

Oh WOW ... I bought this product (see below photo) and mashed it into the mixture of food & water in the syringe -- then I fed the little chick with the club foot for the past 2 days -- and his little leg is nearly straight!! --- I don't understand why B2 and B3 fixed it or how, but I'm absolutely amazed! He's normal again and I didn't have to traumatize him trying to tape a boot to his little leg. Amazing! :wee:jumpy

@Eggcessive -- Do you know how the vitamins help a club foot & curled toes turn normal? I really want to understand.

Very interesting. I have 4 buttons that are 3 days old. They came from me incubating the first 7 eggs of a hen, because she died suddenly and I’m hoping to get a new mate for the male. So, there can be several underlying causes, early egg of a young hen, or perhaps deficiencies because they were still eating high protein starter when the eggs were laid, but, last night all 4 were fine and completely normal. This morning I notice one is taking a wider stance and it’s leg slips to the side more often. For a few hours I check it regularly, I upped the amount of nutridrench in the water, and I gave it a bit directly. By noon, he was doing the splits more than half the time, so I hobbled him (ridiculously difficult with buttons) and put him in a small cup I use for ketchup and sauce for my kids.

I’ve noticed over the past few hours, that the lower part of the leg is turning outward from the hock, and worsening quickly. There is no visible injury or indication of pain, and it hasn’t slipped a tendon. I have ordered the b complex supplements from amazon, and I’ve ordered nutritional yeast to pick up later from Walmart to use until it arrives. Of course I’ll check if they have the supplements at Walmart, but it listed none in store on the site. I didn’t start a new thread because I remembered this one and I wanted to reply to you, so you could add any insight if you have it.

Nutri-Drench does not contain B2 (Riboflavin) so it's good that you ordered B-Complex. You may have been able to find B-Complex at WalMart too.

Photos of the legs? Turning outward sounds like leg bone deformity. I believe @Eggcessive has good info on that.
