Clucking neighbors

Long time lurker but time to voice what we are going through. In summary we are on the verge of being sued. We have a flock of chickens and yes a rooster. The neighbors are pressuring through their lawyer to make us get rid of all of our chickens. It’s been almost two years and they just brought it up. Apparently there is a deed restriction for no livestock, but we believe this was intentionally withheld because the previous owner told us chickens where fine, they had quail, and one of the four homes had chickens in the past. Our realtor even asked because no chicken would be a deal breaker. We are now looking into the fact that the restriction was not held to or enforced in the past or any legal basis for us to keep 8 hens, 2 per family member.

I'm not sure trying to grandfather in the keeping of chickens on your property will be legal if there is specific documentation in the deed forbidding the keeping of livestock. Do you have an attorney?
