It's great you're getting ready to take the big step and doing your planning first! Chicks are usually most readily available from hatcheries and local feed stores in the spring, but you can order them or buy started pullets almost any time of the year if you know a good source.

We have lot's of people here with tons of experience and lot's of forums with answers to all kinds of issues. After you have your flock, you can use the emergencies forum if you have any kind of issues or concerns! Leading up to that, we have forums for all life stages of keeping chickens and all issues or questions around them! You can always create threads asking questions or for advice and everyone would be happy to help out! :D
