Like a lot of people, I had chickens as a kid, then didn't for a long time, and rediscovered the practicality of having chickens over the last couple years (though I had been strongly considering getting back into it for about 5 years, it took some unspecified world events to tip me over the line.

My goal is not particularly ambitious; just to have a genetically sustainable flock of well mannered, well fleshed mutt birds who lay 3 eggs a week.

Started last spring (more like late winter) with 30, fenced free range. Now at around 60. I think I'll put a hard cap on population at 87.
