cocci again and this time I mean buisness! need non-organic advise

I have a few links on Cocci that you might find interesting. I had my chicks vaccinated and haven't had to feed any medicated feed. I would feed medicated feed if there was ever issue. The blood in their stool is from their intestines sustaining severe damage.

I know its a personal issue and each persons choice, but I would never let a pet or animal suffer from a disease if there was an easily available medication that could help.

well its been 4 days on the meds and no more blood in the brooders all poops seem normal. I had one pullet die but 1 out of 30 isnt that bad I suppose. I am going to continue treatment for the full 7 days but I am so happy that it worked.

I was going to keep a few of these birds for myself but since I do the organic thing I wont be able to but I will make sure those I do sell them to are aware of what happened and that they can never be considered "Organic" anymore. Frankly I dont think they will care about it since I seem to be the only Organic chicken freak around these parts.


the amprol will be arriving today and in the future if this happens again and I cant solve it with organic methods (which have worked for me in the past) I will try the Amprol first since I do feel as though the Sulfadimethoxine is strong and should not be used if possible. But I am glad I have it now since it saved my chicks but hope to never need it again.

You need penazeryl (sp?). It's a new drug, a lot of strains are resistant to corid now (according to my vet) so i wouldn't use it. You have to get penazeryl from the vet because they measure it out per weight of each bird. It really saved a goose I had who was so weak and light she couldn't stand. A month later she was laying and she's only nine months old. I also had a much loved goat I treated with corid and she died anyway. It depends on your area, but the bugs in my neck of the woods are virulent little beasts.

I don't get cocci, Don't over crowd, Keep the brooder clean, but not to clean,(you need some poo so your birds build a resistence to cocci), cocci likes warm damp places, also I put my babies on paper towl for 7 days, any water spills get cleaned up right away. haven't used any meds for 3 yrs for cocci. If I think they might be getting sick they get powered milk in there feed. (old timers cure)

I asked before but you were in the throws of it, Iam SO glad they mostly made it!!! How come they are no longer organic? I mean the meds will be out of their system so don't they go back to being organic.
