I think one of our hen has coccidiosis. I have separate her from the others so she won't get anybody else infected. It is one of my new additions. It is Doodle. She was acting weird after school today then I saw her poop and it look terrible! Here is a pic of her poop.

There is some green stuff and I believe ther red is blood. Doesn't it look like coccidiosis? We have sulmet and we are putting it in Doodle's waterer and the 3 gallon waterer for the others. Everybody else looks to be okay. Doodle looked fine yesterday and she just stared acting weird today and she never pooped like that before. I need to know how much to put in their waterers each day and for how many days. Please pray for our girl.

Have you fed them anyting green, like cabbage? Mine have green poop after eating veggies........... and it's really runny, too. But, yes, it does look weird

I've seen normal poo that looks like that, How is she acting?? I can't tell from the picture if its blood or just a lil red looking from something she has ate. With Coci they normally act all droopy and will be fluffed up is she??

I'm sorry to hear that! I'm not sure on the doses for the meds. I've always just made sure I kept my shaving, food and water bowls clean. I normally will clean the area they were in with bleach and put apple cider vinegar in their water. I've had luck with that and never had to use meds.

Could be cocci and could be worms. No way to know for sure from a picture unless you actually see worms and you don't always. She won't infect others since cocci is not actually spread through contact with other birds. If one has it, probably most would have it. The wormer Safeguard (also called Panacur or Fenbendazole) has anti-protozoan properties, and protozoa are what cause cocci, so that is a good one to use for a wormer, plus it gets most every worm they can have. The best thing for cocci is Corid, not Sulmet which is very hard on their systems. And it won't hurt them to be wormed while on Corid, but if you are using Sulmet, to worm them at the same time would be not such a great idea.




As a side note, bleach does NOT kill the oocysts that cause cocci. Household ammonia does, though.

She is doing much better this morning!!!!

She is up and at it and she has a very bright comb!!! Do you think she could've just had an episode in away. I am not putting back in. I am just thinking. She is eating and drinking. She has not pooped yet this morning.
