If you treat, do a full course. Like an antibiotic, doing things just in case or just because is just below neutral at best.

I've only had one laying hen that had problems with cocci and it was in conjuction with a very hard molt so it really hasn't been an issue. She only layed a few eggs in the month following the medication and she was still in the chicken hospital so it was easy enough to know which eggs were hers.
