cocci ?'s i can't find answers to...

my vet refuses to do chickens

so he wasn't helpful.

so...the plan of attack is finishing up the sulmet and seeing what happens. if it comes back, then i'll get corid and try again.

also tonight i'm going to wally world to make the paste. there's still 3 will blood. the rest seem to be ok. hopefully they'll make it.

thank you to everyone that responded. it's nice to know that in a time of total panic, there are people out there that care enough to take a few minutes and try to help

The amount I usually see is 1 tablespoon per gallon..(ACV)
but I'm not sure of what use it would be now for treating cocci..
or mixed with cocci medicated water.
better off using a teeny bit of cranberry juice, or red marbles to attract them to it.

also, adding extra protein to the diet might only encourage growth of the cocci..
JMHO..

you might have to force feed the medicated water to the lethargic chicks..by drops on beaks..sick birds sometimes just won't drink and they need the med.

online source for meds and Oxine is:

http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/store/

click disinfectant in the sideboard for Oxine.

fingers crossed for the chicks.

well, 24 hours on sulmet.

most of yesterday, i did forcefeed my 2 sick ones the water. they still didn't make it, but i didn't really expect them to. they were too far gone.

i cleaned the paper towels yesterday evening, and had a lot of bloody poop still in the one brooder when i went in there this morning. but i changed the paper towels again at 8 this morning... just went in, and no bloody poops are found.....so maybe, hopefully, the meds are finally working.

it doesn't look like i have any really lethargic chicks...both brooders were eating very vigorously this morning. so....

now i can go back to worrying about my hatch that is due tomorrow and still not one peep or pip.

***********
if i didnt' have chickens, what in the world would i worry about???

ACV is not really a treatment. Like medicated feed, it will help prevent an epidemic. As an "this is all I have" it may help give a bit extra time to get the meds that will actually treat the coccidiosis.

Sounds like you're seeing improvements! It really only takes like 3 days for them to act normal again. That said, be sure to finish the full course or it might come back worse than before.
