I have two week old chicks and just finished up with a round of Corid (6 days at full strength, one day at preventative dose. They were looking good, mostly normal poops of normal color, with a few occasionally loose/wet.
It never presented as bloody, but yellow poops and lethargic/dehydrated chicks, and I lost two before figuring out what was happening.
I took them off rather than continue the preventative (low) dose because they were doing well, and I was worried about thiamine deficiency while they're so young and rapidly growing. (I don't know if I need to worry about that or not??)
I followed up with two days of vitamin/probiotic water, with a clove of garlic in it yesterday. I was seeing more loose stools, but all chicks are eating, drinking, and bright. I put a lump of charred wood in there, and 5 out of 12 chicks attacked it and ate a lot of charcoal.
This morning, there were lots of little good-looking black poops in the brooder, and some not-black diarrheas with some intestinal lining in them.
Is it possible I'm seeing a cocci relapse? Is there any risk in putting them back on Corid?
Thank you for any advice!
