Cochin Bantams and Frizzle Cochin Bantams!!

Just posting to jointhe thread. Wehad a frizzled partridge cchin that we bought as a hen and she died mysteriously several months after we got her. We took over a batch of 4h hatched chicks and received a 1week old frizzled cohin in the batch. We have not rised cochins from chicks before. When might I get a clue om gender? Anything to look for?

Just got yhem tonight and they are tired and so am I;. I will get better pics this weekend.

That is a very complex question really. Simple answer is "no one knows"

White birds can be many different things, we have two genes responsible for most white birds, dominant white "I" and recessive white "c", white birds these two genes will often be hiding a lot of other genes too.

You can white birds on a silver base, and white birds on a gold base.

For example, my white hens are gold based, but also carry mottling, and are white due to carrying recessive white. So when i breed them to black i get black mottled birds, with red/brown colours leaking in to the hackle feathers.

If your birds are dominant white then you should see some white feathers coming through from your cross to black. If they are recessive white then the offspring will be black.

Sorry if my answer is confusing, but i have seen white birds here carrying mottling, columbian, even patterning gene. So it makes your question a very difficult one to answer without knowing what makes up your white birds.

Oh, thank you. No, your answer isn't confusing itself; I get that the situation is a complicated one. I have no idea whether her white is recessive or dominant. I know one of the roos has a dominant white gene, so most of the chicks from another hatch from only him turned out almost entirely white (I have one pullet who is the color of a GLW hen, not the color pattern, just the brown and black).
The other roo is SLW x BO, so I hope we get some color there.

Is it okay for a black Bantam Cochin to have a few white feathers? These are the six I bought last week; they're about ten days old:

BTW, @mindylee , you were right, the ones with spots on their heads are the ones that have barred wing feathers so far. =) The other three have solid color feathers (mostly black, a few white feathers).

Yes black birds sometimes have the first few flight feathers come in white. However, they tend to fall out and regrow in black. So no worries.

My partridge cochin bantams will be 4 weeks on tuesday. One has feathers different from the rest. Any reason? Or logic? Do pullets and roosters have different feather markings at this age?

Thank you. That was my guess. We had an adult that color once but never saw her as a a baby.

My Cochin Bantam Frizzle looks like this:

The rooster that I've had a hatch from already looks like this: He's GLW x WL.

Most of the chicks from that hatch are white with very few, very small bits of black or brown, except one and she looks like this:

The other rooster looks like this: He's SLW x BO.

So, I was wondering what kinds of colorings I can expect from the BCF and my two roos. Like I said, so far my GLW x WL roo has thrown mostly white chicks.
