Cochin/Brahma help needed.

Light brahmas look like columbians, white and black, but columbians don't have the feathered feet like the brahmas do... Pretty birds...I have a light brahma chick on order myself.

The dark brahma are pretty also...dark grey black pattern much like the penciled.

You most likely have what you want, just in different colors. With so many thousands of chicks and even more peopel ordering they are bound to have mix ups or run short on certain colors.

I guess you will have to wait and be surprised...hope they at least got the sex right for you!

I have columian cochins and they are yellow with gray backs and start getting black and white on the wings. Those are not columbians... I would assume buffs but the black and white is throwing me off...

LoL I just PM'd you Msbear. I was wondering if you would know, but guess I just have a confusing chick.

I have a Red Frizzle Cochin bantam, its first feathers came in buff, but the newer ones are coming in darker red. I am figuring the same will happen with the first buff looking Cochin. I have no clue on that second one either. I can't find any pics that show a buff chick feathering in white and black.

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

I only have light brahmas, and I've had chicks that hatched that dark too... when they feather out, they'll look normal, maybe with a little more black in the back feathers, but they'll be light brahmas.
It is always possible that they mixed them up, too, but it is possible to have light brahma chicks that dark.
Don't know anything about cochins...

I'm going to agree with Mrs. AK. My dark brahmas were more brown than black as chicks. I've looked and looked at those pics and I still think it's a light brahma. Will see if I can find a pic.

Okay, found some pics:
The chick with the mark on his head and the one closest to him pecking feed are both dark brahmas. See how they are more brown than black? The one with the mark is actually my Thor when he was a teeny weeny baby.

The two chicks in the food dish (at the bottom of the pic) are both light brahmas. The darker one turned out colored like the rest of my lights.

They are Ideal chicks. Hope this helps.

I have a buff cochin right now, about 4-5 weeks, and it's getting a few dark feathers spread among her tail and wings...didn't have them as early as yours does but it might not be that unusual.

I think I just got a couple of oddballs

Variety is good though, so I am not disappointed.

Thanks for the pics, they helped a lot. I will have to post pics of the two weird featherers when they get a little older.
