Hi all, first time posting to this forum for me.

I just recently decided to take the plunge and become a chicken momma this week. I ordered 4 golden sex-links for eggs (I've heard wonderful things about that hybrid), and I had the lady at the hatchery put in a barred Cochin chick for gee-wizz purposes and am praying for it not to be a rooster.

I am noticing that my 4 pullets are hilariously curious and active (as well as large), but my little Cochin seems to be more socially withdrawn, and not interested in mealworm treats like the others. Additionally, he/she's a tad narcoleptic when picked up. Is it normal for Cochins to take a trip to dreamland more often than other types of chicks? It's hilarious, but I also worry that something is wrong with the little dude.

Please help!

I dont have an answer for you, but others im sure will but welcome to the site

How old is s/he? He might just be a bit weaker than the other chicks, have you tried putting some vitamins and electrolytes or sugar in there water? He might just need an extra boost. Good luck!

Hard to say... age may be a factor, breed... the sex links might be more of a dominant and active bird altogether... cochins are usually more docile. I have 1 cochin in my brooder that is 3-1/2 weeks old (4 others are 4-1/2 weeks and the other 4 are 5-1/2 weeks)... the baby cochin is definitely the least active of the bunch.

Thanks for the replies! I was thinking that the breed had something to do with it. Good thing I was worried about him/her because I was able to catch some pasting and put a stop to it.

The other chicks are healthy like big fluffy draft horses.
