Say, will the judge give you an opinion or do they just give out the awards and if you didn't make the cut nothing more is said? Or do you have to seek out the judge to ask his opinion?

I can't recall the food we used that had 24% in it, it was at a store that we had to drive 1 hour to get to, this time I opted to just get one that had 20% protein. Call around the nearest feedstores and ask what the highest protein chicken food they have is.

She is very pretty. Is she laying eggs? I have a cochin who is a little over 6 months and she is not laying yet. Wondering how long I have to wait. Heck my boy JUST started crowing and he's the same age. He has a very small comb and wattles so I was told he may be a she LOL He didn't have any roo qualities until now.

That's the butt of my blue.

As I've been watching...the older they get...the saggier they get...LOL

Mine's sagging...but her lacing is MUCH better than it was the year before!

Hanging with my peeps No she isnt laying yet. Her comb just started turning red. My barred cochin just started crowing a few weeks ago. Its the longest crow I have heard. When I first heard it I thought what in the world, I had to stnd there to see who it was. Hes 28 weeks yesterday My other rooster who is the same age hasnt crowed yet. Hes a buff. Then I have three younger that are 21 weeks that are jsut starting to get their red combs. I will have to try to get a beter picture of her she is really wide and fluffy I know the picture makes her look thin but she isn't. Sandhill Preservation says they are giant cochins is that the same as standard? I know my barred cochin is really hugh compared to some of the others. Thanks Kanchii I am limited to feed stores in the area but I will try to increase her protein levels

I use gamebird or sporting bird feeds for my cochins. I use a breeder formula for my layers and a flight conditioner or grower for the younger ones. On average they are about 22-24% protein. Usually any feed store that carries regular layer feed, should have gamebird feed.

Luvinmypeeps: you will have to seek out the judge and ask his/her opinion. Once they judge the bird, they write their placement on the tag. Then the judge moves on to other birds and finally leaves. You would then bring your tag to the people running the show to get any ribbons earned. But ultimately, if you want to talk to the judge, you need to find him when he is done.

In poultry shows exibitors have to leave the building when the judging is going on.. so you need to seek out and talk to the Judge(s) and tell them you came to hear thier oppinion.. Most will gladly go back and look at your bird again and discuss it with you. Remember however that they aren't there to tell you how cute your pet is.. they will tell you its flaws and what to work on. If you don't want to hear the bad.. then don't ask the judge.. they will be honest.

This is really good information for me also. Now I have to go look at my splash cochin. She is only 12 weeks though. I just want to see if the feathers on the inside of her legs meet

I have been staring at my birds the last few days thinking about seeing if I could show any of them. The splash is my best option at this point...

Thanks to the OP for asking
