My buff Cochin hen had what looked like a black eye about a week ago I thought maybe she got a wing to the face by an over ambitious rooster at the time. Well today she had what I thought to be some sort of pus or discharge near her eye, on closer examination it seems to be a foam like substance, it looks like bug spit (that stuff bugs lay eggs in and leave all over trees in the summer)..or soap bubbles. I thought perhaps she jabbed herself near the eye and it abscessed or something, since the hens have been free ranging in some thick thorny brush lately. She has not stopped eating/drinking, no sneezing, no breathing issues, looks fine excluding that eye thing, and is still laying eggs like a gang buster. But I'm concerned its an illness or something. I just started looking into MG and now I'm freaking. When they come in tonight to roost I'll grab her and get her quarantined ASAP well away from the others. But as of right now she seems no different and no other chickens have any symptoms either. Any input here would be awesome on this issue. Thanks!

I just put her into quarantine in another building and she looked at me like I was crazy. Upon a closer inspection there was no discharge of any kind at the moment but she has a small bump a third the size of a dime and a small crusty purplish/brown scab like mark on the bottom edge of that bump, maybe a puncture mark? Do abscesses ever have white foam? Or is this a sinus issue of some kind, or a possible disease? There is some sort of thorn covered bush in the area that they have been that cause infected punctures and hurt like heck when they stick humans. Could that bush cause a response like this if my chicken got poked in the face? She is a sweet hen and I would hate to have to cull her but I can't risk losing all the chickens on my property if this is some sort of disease. I don't want to put her back in with the others if she gets better and I have no idea what she might be carrying.

Does this sound like any poultry disease?

She is still in quarantine and is eating/drinking and acting normal. But she laid an egg this morning with blood smeared on it and has scabs on her face/ wattles and comb some look like scratches so that raises the question of whether she banged up her head trying to get out of the cage and back to the other chickens. Or is she scratching her face with her feet...and why? Does anyone know what could be going on with her? Or should I just "remove" her from the flock? Should I treat the rest of the flock with something just as a precaution?
