Cochin Thread!!!

I have a 16 month LF Cochin roo who never 'sits' on the roost. All of my other chickens hunker down but I've never seen him do that anywhere. Is this normal for the breed?

Thank you for your help!

The friend who sent me the eggs has a friend she got her bantam Cochins from who has a gorgeous frizzle MF rooster that I hope to get eggs from as soon as the weather cools down. Near 100 degrees here most of this week

I really worry about my chickens when it gets over 90. Time to set up the misters!

Maybe he goes onto the roost once you are in bed? I thought the same thing of one of my chickens but one time I went and checked on them right before I went to bed and he was roosting with the others. I assumed he just watched out for everyone until he deemed it "safe".

Thanks for the advice on my bantam Moonshine. Since he started attacking us we've been cutting him short by picking him up as soon as he starts his challenges of our feet. He still bites my son if he picks him up but he doesn't bite me or my daughter that way. He's not the only male. We got our first bantams this year and just took pot luck on them. We ended up with three roos but since they are for showing and 4-H stuff we don't want to cull them. They have their own pen. Only problem is now he's attacking our Silkie bantam and pulling all his tail feathers out. I'm guessing we're going to have to separate them. Once we pick him up he calms down and even snuggles up against us.

Thanks! I will

Been in the 100's here too. 112 a few days ago and all of my chickens were walking around, wings out. Poor things. I've been doing different things to try and help keep them cool.

Here either! I was pretty sure I was dying today at 106, almost got sick when I attempted to go out. We're setting records all over the place.

Drought, water conservation and all. Not normal at all for where I live!

Hi, I am new to the bantam Cochins. A BYC friend sent me some bantam buff Brahma eggs and included two bantam Cochin eggs which both hatched. They are the cutest little roosters! One is a MF and the other is pure white and it looks like he is going to be a frizzle. His wing feathers are curling which makes him look like he has angel wings! I just love these guys! They are 4 weeks old.

Here are some pictures of them~

That isnt a frizzle. If he were a frizzle every feather on his body would be curled, and his wing feathers arent frizzled at all. His feathers on his wing front are just very loose, my smooth cockerels all have this as well.

This is one of my White cockerels at the same age, you can see the difference.
