Cochin Thread!!!

Hello everyone! I am looking at getting a bantam Cochin hen/pullet in the next month and I am looking for some inside insight from the breed experts. I will be timing integrating my bantam and LF flocks right about when quarantine will be up so... How do bantam Cochins handle in flocks that include larger birds? It's going to be a small flock in the end, I have 3 big girls and will have one other bantam by then.

Also, I am wanting the broodist of the broody. Are there any characteristics to look for, like one color that goes broodier more than another? Are hatchery Cochins still really broody or would it be best to find a professional breeder? DH said he won't argue with me about chicks so long as they are hatched and mothered by the ladies and not in the house. And they all find new homes in the end. :D

ROFL my (un)white bantam cochin pullet rules all the other pullets, from the d'uccles all the way up to the dorkings and everything between.

:D. Good to know. The last 'small' bird I had with the big girls was a hamburg and she got terrorized. The main culprit was rehomed a few days ago as was the hamburg (different homes). I just wanted to be sure these guys wouldn't be waving the 'trample me' flag. And I think I am smitten with the Mille Fleur's. Sooooo adorable.

Ended up with 7 chicks out of 9 eggs. 1 Red, 2 white and 4 Blue/Splash is what it looks like I ended up with. I may end up with more Splash, seeing as some of my Whites hatch with a grey color to them. Waiting game I suppose, but I did get 1 Red and have more due to hatch very soon.

The Mille Fleur rooster that I gave my cousin rules her entire pen. He is a sweethert to all the girls and polite to people but won't let the other roo, a huge Orpington, near the girls. He also chases the Emu in the pen with the flock!
