Cochin Thread!!!

1st picture is of 2 of the Blacks hatched in September. Hope he matures to a larger version of what he is now.
A couple of pictures of my favorite pen of birds. Columbian pullets and SL pullet and hen. I have better birds but none I enjoy more..

This is our bantam cochin "Sticky" named because she had eggshell stuck on her when she was hatched. Sticky is a movie star! If you saw this fall's "Here Comes The Boom" with Henry Winkler and Kevin James look for Sticky. She was at the beginning in the part when they are searching out a place where the match is being held in a warehouse. She got her few seconds of fame!

Does Sticky want to come love in Michigan?

How cool!!

Hello! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a good sized pen for a trio of cochin bantams is. I will be getting some soon and have very limited space. I have seen a few pics of people keeping them in 2X3 cages and that seems small to me. Thanx,

Yep that's a little small. Build it as big as you can because you will probably get more.

I consider 4 sq ft per bird acceptable space as long as you are willing to clean cage OFTEN

OK peeps....I am a total rookie at cochins, but ya gotta start somewhere. I have 4 chicks each very different that I ordered and would like to know if I am anywhere close on what I think colors are. Can you be kind and advise me?
These hatched on Dec 8th. Two are pullets (pretty sure) and they are blue and black. The two in question are both boys (at least they look to be) and I originally thought one was splash and one was possibly red or buff. Both are frizzled but now they are changing drastically, and I just want to know for sure what color I am looking at. Thank in advance....sorry these aren't better pix. One handed photography can be tough.

chick #1 Splash? He has a silver tint to him and blackish feathers on the dark spots

Wings #1

Chick #2 Has always had a reddish tint to him, on his head, wings, back, legs. Now it really shows up. And he is more blueish than black on his tips.

starting to show in his chest/shoulders

lots of red in his wings....someone suggested Wheaton?? Even some red on his legs/feet.

The person I got these from said there were buff, black, gray, mottled, splash, blue, and red in the pen together, however I don't know what was a roo and what was a hen. I know the splash's were Frizzled. So.....suggestions? I wish I could get better shots. When you blow these up, maybe you can see better.

Thanks again in advance for any advice.

Sorry, but I don't think that you will get a straight forward answer. When I hatched from my mixed color cochins, I recieved some pretty interesting color combinations and many of them are not official colors, just fun to look at. If you really want to know, try taking pictures when they are fully feathered.
