And your exactly right that I'll be hard pressed to find a breeder that will sell me eggs or chicks...thus the reason for a lot of varieties becoming almost "extinct", for lack of a better word. I, too, am very familiar with the cost of shipping birds...I ship birds very frequently.

I suppose I'm just a little picky in that I would like to buy hatching eggs and go through the raising, selecting, and culling process myself...the same way that I've done with every breeding flock that's on my farm. I Marek's vaccinate every single bird that is hatched on my farm...so the odds of me finding adult birds that are vaccinated are very slim. That's the main reason for me, personally, preferring not to buy from breeders that do not sell hatching eggs. To me, this whole "issue" is a matter of safety and biosecurity for my farm.

I saw the photos of you bantam cochins on your website - such nice color. I chose Bantam cochins by reading about alot of the breeds on the BYC. I knew I couldn't raise many breeds at once so I chose carefully and I really love them. Some day I would like some Buff Columbian maybe by then I can get some from you.
P.S. I am from near Blissfield, Michigan, (near the south east corner)

Thanks for the compliment regarding my birds, mjgigax.

But mine do need improving in various areas...and I'll continue to work on them. I spent all of last year buying hatching eggs from a few dedicated breeders and starting up my various varieties. The hardest part has been the culling. It's so very hard to cull a bird over what most would consider insignificant. But it has to be done. The best I can do is make sure my birds go to good homes where they are appreciated and loved. I'm sorry, but I don't have buff Colombians. My white Colombians are hard enough! LOL If I can ever be of help, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Oh gosh, I know! I haven't had to bring myself cull any of the Cochins yet. I plan on doing a lot of hatching next spring, so it's coming. I had to let a pair of Call ducks go this morning though - I got them from a local breeder and they had terrible type, I just don't have room to keep all the pet-quality birds like that. It was awful though - we had them all named.

At least they went to an awesome pet home!

Do you have any big shows near you? I would wait until you show and see what you get. Then you can determine better from there :) Im going to wait until then to decide what to keep and such.
