Cochin Thread!!!

Hi, I just picked up a few chicks at the feedstore to keep a singleton hatch silkie company. I only have Silkies so was trying to pick out Cochins and dont know for sure that is what I did. They have feathered feet, single comb and not bearded.. That was all I knew to look for. If someone could tell me if I picked right and identify colors I would appreciate it :) I went to get one and got two, ( just in case) and then my DH added in the reddish one Thank you!
The first is Partridge, second is probably blue and last is black. Enjoy!

Thank you.. I read what I could before going to pick them out and figured the one was black and the other blue or mottled but had no idea about the reddish one. They dont look like Silkie partridge! :) Obviously I dont expect quality of the hatchery Cochins to be nice like from a good breeder but how is the quality of hatchery Cochins. With Silkies they barely look like the same breed...

my cochin roo trying to make babies with my single comb silkie. the sad part is that i think e is sterile. i have had him since last fall with my black hen and none of her eggs have been fertile.
Or he is just too fluffy/short-legged to get the job done. My cochin was doing his "mating flapping" earlier today, apparently on the ground with no hen under him. Then he jumped off and my poor serama pullet was there, couldn't even see her because of his big fluffy-butt. I won't be hatching any of those babies...

Have tried trimming some feathers around their, um, "plumbing", sorry, not sure what to call it exactly. Might help with his, and her fertility, as it may not be all his fault. Just an idea.

i did him just not her will try that thanks.

Please note you need to pluck or trim:
the male from the vent and down. You check as you do it by pressing on his breast backwards until no feathers will block him making contact.

the female needs to be from the vent and up. You check by pressing down on the hen and when feathers do not block vent area fertilization can happen.

This works for 6-8 weeks then feather grow back in if you pluck. If you trim feathers fertility may last until the next molt.

Good Luck.
