As Andy said the Self Blue is fraught with feather issues. Over here in the US we see a lot of the fray gene connected to the lavender gene. I don't breed Self-Blue but I've seen Tom Roebuck's Self Blues and they are gorgeous. He started with birds not as nice as the one you are showing in your post, and used his gorgeous Blacks to get to where he was at time. If you're going to breed SB, the good news is just that, "outcrossing" to the best Black you can find will not only give you improved type, but it should also aid in getting rid of the fray on the feathers. There is a lot of thought here that there is a link between the lavender gene and feather problems. A lot of breeders say it can be selected out.
I wouldn't judge her too harshly yet. Not until first molt. I have seen some amazing transformations in my black birds. Also had a white hen who's comb went from being flopped over to straight up after her first true molt. And a black hen with similar tail feathers had a significant improvement in her cushion after her first molt.
Then you're gonna love this one too!
He's a Bob Hawes buff bantam cochin cock....I have two hens and some new chicks coming along.
