Can y'all critique my hatchery blue cockerel. He is 6 months old. He still has A LOT of growing to do. He has a good bit of pin feathers coming in around his neck, and his saddle feathers are now coming in.

Ok thanks i will try thatAs for getting the birds inside at night. . . When I first put new birds out in their pens, I have a few of the cheap solar yard lights where the solar cell is wired to the lights (they usually come with three lights to one panel. I put one light in the coop and the panel outside. That way when darkness comes along the coop is lighted a bit. This seems to get them to go in. After the get the routine down I'll unplug the light every few days until I remove it completely. I use both ramps and steps at their pop doors. Cochins it seem prefer to hop the steps in while the egg layer coop prefer the ramps. It maybe thata the pop door is too high for them to figure out how to get in? Usually the light, steps, and ramp choice works for me. I also have one group that gets in fairly early. More than once I've searched for them outside when in fact they've gone to bed early ! Dave
No we didn't put a light or heat lamp in because the people we got them from said they wouldn't need one at that age but i will put a light in. OK i will try that thanks for the help![]()

That is so cool!!!Oh that is so cool . My first Cochin name is Lily also and she is why I love the Cochin breed. She too is what sparked my passion for the breed she is the reason we are getting more.

He looks like a very sweet pet.
that sounds like another project and I am already doing silkied ams!I was wondering what color Frik and Frak are...at least that assessment was good to.. S when I take pics it is best to get a frontal view and a side view with the bird relaxed as much as possible? The mottle girl just has stood up to look at something she isn't that upright in her carriage at all. Frik and Frak are a start to mille for you. They are missing a lot of black. If you like that pattern you could use them with your mottled girl (should give you dark mottled with vermillion hackles) and take the offspring back to Frik or Frak which should produce better black chevrons and chest "flowers". The bottom pullet i would call a calico which has the same colors as a mille but not correct patterning and to my understanding will not help you if your project is to produce correct milles. Mille Fleur pattern should be vermillion feather base with black chevron and white tip.
