Cochin Thread!!!

Thank-you.  So if I want to breed them, than I should find another pair without the defect and cross split breast to smooth. Of course, I'd only do this if the ones with split breasts were otherwise better than the ones without the defect.

There seems to be very little information on split breasts in cochins.

Can you get a picture up soon? So we can see.

re: split breasts. a lot of youngsters seem to show that but outgrow it as they mature... so it would depend on the age of the birds you have, as to how bad it really is. again pics would be nice, when you get a chance.

He said they were 5 - 6 months old. I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I'm able too. Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation. Your description of leg color seems to fit these birds. I'll try to take pictures to confirm.

Would I be able to breed away from the splits breasts? Or do I need to find a bird without this defect?

but outI was probably over-analyzing them this morning. I'm in love with the pair and I'm more than willing to work with them.

I have some very good birds that go through a growth stage where they look split but the outgrow it. If these birds are less than 6 months old I would advise patience.

I have a couple buff cockerels and want to know if they are good breeder quality, which boy should I keep? Thanks! Oh and I've noticed they may have split wing, it that hereditary/problem?
