Cochin Thread!!!

Personal opinion, no offense intended, but I feel like coming to a thread made for ornamental/pet birds/ show birds to talk about trying to turn them into dinner, is like going to a thread on show horses and talking about horse meat. It's probably best if you just don't. Maybe start your own thread about it. You most likely won't find anyone on here trying to hatch birds for dinner. I may be wrong and I apologize if I am, I personally don't eat any of my birds, but the cochins and silkies are like cats and dogs to me. It's kind of stomach turning to talk about eating them.

So true

This hatched from an egg labeled by owner Cochin x Silkie. When the others hatched pure Silkie, she said the Cochin rooster must not be doing his job. But I'm wondering - since this one had pink skin - if this might actually be Cochin or a Cochin x Silkie. First picture is 2 days old, next two are 10 days old.

black skin and 5 toes points to silkie or silkie cross... it's not a pure cochin by any means. if it's a silkie cross no telling what might be the other half.

It has pink skin, not black, which is why I was unsure. I'll check back with her, but I'm sure she said she only had Cochins and Silkies in that pen.

There is a poultry show at Pryor March 1. Calico and Mille are around but not a recognized variety and probably won't see any of those there.. I would love to tell you who to contact but I was reminded that I can not recommend anyone or any site as that breaking rule 7 which is about advertizing. I know who to send you to but I can't.

This is part of that message:.

I wonder what the threat is from pointing folks in the right direction?

Poultry show on March 1... I will probably be entering my daughter into that with one of her silkies (4-H). And Poo! That just stinks. I am apart of the Okie thread and I have found a few but they breed black, blue and splash. I was really hoping to find Calico and Mille in Standard but since they are only bantam I guess I need to see what other kind I like most... Thank you though for your response!

I haven't seen any calico or millie colored cochins in the standard size.
Only bantam.

Dose anyone have any and got pics?
Love to see!

I have the bantams (23 of them)
Are the colors the same or better?
Well... shoot. I was really hoping to find those in standard. I'm a newbie (my true colors are shining through).

I only know a few people working on LF Columbians. Not perfected or recognized. I know the man in the forefront of developing LF Columbians. I think he got a very good LF light brahma and crossed to his great line of Blacks.and then selectively breeds for type an pattern. It is a long process. Still being worked on.

You know me. I am a retired grandpa , served USAR for six years, and always try to do right by the breed. i will try to do the right thing for the breed. I think I got in trouble for sending someone when perhaps I coud suggest looking it up. to their home state thread to look for a frizzle locally. I am still trying to figure out how I can help and not cross the boundaries . I may have to continue to operate as I always have and just deal with the consequences if any. . It is not like I send people to FB or anything that would hurt this site.. Just want to help connect those that want with those that ay have . I never do anything on here for personal gain.

Quote: the picture you posted, the face and legs are black. that is the skin you should be looking at. that is not pink... and 5 toes are a dead give away for silkie cross when silkie is an option... the only 5 toed breeds are silkie, sultan, Dorking, faverolles, and .. another I'm remembering but it's not a common breed... but the silkie is the only one with black legs/face.

this is what a normal cochin chick looks like...
