blue, black, and splash are 3 different colors. black is, well, black. it'll develop the beetle green sheen at maturity. if they carry 1 copy of the blue gene (heterozygous) then you get blue. if it carries 2 copies of the blue gene (homozygous) then it's a splash, which will be a white or nearly white silvery color with splashes of darker pigment here and there randomly scattered.

I have never (in yrs and yrs) had an aggressive cochin. That's why I raise this breed...they are dolls for my little girls to handle and use in 4H. I have one black Roo that likes to shuffle at me, but then he sits down so I can pet him
