Cochin Thread!!!

Yea, I'll carry her around or sit with her in my lap and calmly stroke her and talk to her.  She loves it.  She really is a sweet bird and I don't think she means to bite.  She's just very aggressive about food and knows that treats come in my hands so she's always pecking at my fingers.

I don't think there really is anything that can be done.  I find that my birds mellow out from their high strung teenage phase after their first molt so maybe I just chill till this fall and see if that doesn't get her to chill out a bit.

Recently I had a batch like yours that are too friendly and have attempted to jump up to grab stuff out of my hands. They had become too forward as they reached sexual maturity. They follow me around like mob. I have accidentally kicked a few as they walk in front of me and I'm a bit clumsy. It does help knock it off a bit to give them a corrective poke, either with you foot or your hand, and not allow forward behaviors. Petting chickens is often seen as a submissive behavior. So shagging her off or giving her a peck is what I would try. Some chickens are always looking to be dominant.

Awww...congrats on your baby!!! Hopefully some siblings are on the way

two more pure hatched and a cochin mix today.  Mamma's still on the nest so hopefully there will be more tomorrow.

here the are in all their fluffy cuteness. the final count was three. unfornately i lost one before they left the nest. i don't know why. two are pure and i think the brown one is a mix. it's got feathered feet though. can anyboy tell me what i got. parents are both blue, the rooster has red on his wings and neck.

my little mix died in a cold snap. he was weak anyway. the two pures are still going strong. the black one reached a week yesterday and the blue reached a week today. they spent a couple of days in a plastic tub in my basement with their mama. i used my biggest tub but mama was still cramped. boy was she relieved to be back home today. she didn't take the chicks to bed until nightfall.
