Cochin Thread!!!

What a cutie! Do you mind if I ask where you got Lavender eggs from? I'm dying to hatch some myself! (So if anyone reading this will have some extra lavender banty eggs this spring, PM me! I'm in love with Bantam Buff Colombians & Brown-Reds too!) Oh - does anyone here on BYC have Wheaten Cochins? I saw the color once on Feathersite, but I've never heard of anyone who has them? I'm a "duck person", and am new to chickens.

EDIT - Nevermind - I just saw DANNY's page with the prettiest Wheaten hen! I'm so envious!

Here are mine, a Blue and a Black named Benji & Pippin (both cockerels; just my luck

) - I got the eggs from PeepsInc last summer, and they hatched over Labor Day weekend, so they're 5 months old now! They're both sweethearts, and they like to pop up out of nowhere and hitch a ride on your shoulders/head.

They've both filled out considerably since I took these pictures - especially the Black one, Pippin; his chest and bum are getting nice and big and round! (The first picture was taken in November at 2 months old, the rest were just last month at 4 months old)

A couple of the pictures show the two of them spending the day in the other half of the rabbit hutch next to our Holland Lop mix. The poor, confused things are enamored of the bunny rabbit!

Still working on the proper chicken coop - these guys spend the day in the rabbit hutch, and sleep in the garage!

Catwalk, thanks for throwing this at the Chicken Calculator! I tried, but didn't get very far - I'm still far too genetically challenged!

If you get rid of the silver factor, you only need to breed 2048 chicks to get a blue laced gold! Surely there's a splash hen leaking all kinds of gold in someone's back pen? If you use a splash roo, he'll have to be homozygous for gold, which I think would be harder to come by than a splash hen with gold, as she only needs one gold gene.
As for how long to hatch 4096 chicks? Only a year, if you have 23 f1 hens laying at 60% year round with 80% fertility! That's after you get the f1's.

You’ve all got me interested in these BLR Cochins…. I’d really like to see them develop. If any of you are seriously going to try and go for them let me know. I’d love to help try and develop them.

Chickie'sMoma :

isn't tolbunt more like the MF? i've only seen it called that in the polish so far but that is what it seems like to me

In it's simplest form, van Dort describes Mille Fleur as "Gold-Spangled Mottled", and Tollbunt as "Gold-Laced Mottled".
