Cochin Thread!!!

There you go..........
If you had Mandy's two project hens (I've seen them they are beautiful) and get a Gold Laced roo from Gail, you'd be on your way with BLRs.

After you breed them to the golden laced rooster wouldn't you have to breed the resulting hens to a blue rooster to intensify the blue color? Also I don't quite know who Gail is on this thread but I know a breeder that would probably have golden laced cochins that are decent. I am also going to show at Fowl Fest in October so I could probably find one there but this all sounds like alot of work that I am not sure I am ready for. Those would be awesome looking birds though. Thanks for the info Mandy and lilcrow.

blue is a solid color and the resulting genetics will be of solid black. you HAVE to use patterned colors to get the lacing right. black blue and splash have no patterns in them. the blue colors on my birds is great it's the red that needs some improvement because of the gold in them. you just keep breeding the reddest colored birds back together

Here is Grumpy Jr. He is the last offspring I'm aware of out of my son's old show rooster. His daddy was pistol, (Grumpy) but Grumpy Jr. is sweet as pie. He likes to free range and take care of the girls. I'm in the process of getting some girls of his own for him. I hope he can get the job done. He is about 9 years old now, so he's showing a little "gray feathers." Not real good pics of the old gent, but he's pretty dear to our hearts.

I think we could have called him "Wide Load." He's about as wide as he is tall.

Jamie has really nice birds and he is a really nice person too. I have had several birds from Jamie over the years and have always been pleased with them. My White Frizzles actually came from Jamie. Earlier this year I bought a pair and then added another White Frizzle Pulet as well, and am beyond happy with the birds. He brought them to a show back in May for me to pick up and he also brought me a very nice Splash Frizzle Cockerel and gave him to me. He has also shipped me birds and sent an extra bird once or twice. Jamie is someone I would highly recommend.

How sweet! I, too, love to keep my old fellas around. Some do not fertilize the eggs anymore but they still have some "special" ladies to care for and they get to live their lives doing what chickens like to do!

Give the old fella hugs and kisses from me! I adore my bantam Cochins!
