I have no idea! I'm just trying to figure out the best Buff Columbian breeding program I can but am inexperienced in the feather patterns etc.

i would go get some nice white columbain to breed in to my buffs columbains and then breed those babies back to the buff columbains

First off the last picture is the best mature bird by far. The pullets still need to grow a little more.

Chickendales: What would be gained by going to a "nice white Columbian" and how would you do it?

The way I understand it breeding to a Columbian male to the buff hen would get sex linked white/silver pullets and brassy throw away males. Breeding the Buff male to a Columbian hen would produce buff sex linked pullets and throw away males. Good luck finding a better Columbian hen than the last bird pictured above. Be brutally selective in the hens/pullets you breed. I want that last hen for myself.

I did get another roo a few weeks ago, maybe I'll have better luck with him. He's from Erin, very young still~

And here's a side picture of my little roo, is his coloring considered correct?

Twyla, that's the same roo as in the other post? He looks a lot different from the side. His coloring looks blotchy or patchy to me - too much going on. And I'm not a fan of his type.

I don't think you need to go "back to the drawing board" with the pullets. You got a great roo to work with from Erin. Keep in mind that Columbians are considered one of the "parti" colors. You have to hatch a lot to get one or two good ones. So don't give up. I think I would cull/rehome the 2nd pullet for starters. I'm torn on the 4th pullet - not much as far as hackle markings, but from just the one pic, she looks to have the best type of the four. As far as #1 and #3, I'm not sure which is the best.

I like #3 of your original hens - she looks to be the mother of pullet #4. That would definitely be one pairing I would do - your new roo from Erin on your original hen #3.

It is my opinion you are giving bad advice on this one.

I think the last hen is the one throwing the pullets with no color! So, hoping that by switching males I will get better results with her

then i breed pullets back to the males they have that look like buff columbains

Yes, same roo. Actually not a good picture of him but I am starting to see a lot of his daddy in him and I am not fond of his type. Here's a pic of the roo, he was all I could find this season until now and I was hoping the hens would provide type and he would provide color but I see what you mean by "blotchy" (and where junior get's it from! lol)

be careful of those wings it looks like they are at least weak if not possibly split. i had that problem in some of my kaleidoscope breeding. his type isn't the greatest either. i would probably look into replacing him but the females look pretty good
