Gorgeous bird! I wish I could get some LF brown-reds, so I could work on true lemon-blues. I have some lemon-blue project chicks, but I think they're buff and blue based instead of brown-red based. One of the pullets looks sort of like a brown-red, but she doesn't have the right lacing, and some of the cockerels look a bit like your guy (except blue instead of black), but they have no chest lacing, just solid brown/buff chests. Some of the cockerels do have some back lacing and some shoulder blade coloring.

I have 3 lemon blue cockerels. These guys are 4 months in the picture. I'm on cockerel overload.

You can show them but they really are not good examples of mottled. Way too much white. Feathers are supposed to be white tipped Read the SOP. Those birds are nowhere close to the standard.

Thanks, I won't show them then. I bought them to keep good color in my Splashes, not to show. Just wondered if they were close to the standard.

fattie, give them some time, they are just babies. Let them reach at least a year or a year and half before you take them to a show. They wouldn't stand a chance now because they still have on their baby clothes.

all mottleds start out as a tuxedo pattern and then change to white tipped feathers when they get their adult feathers in. that's why you have to wait till about 6 months or so to show them

I can almost guarantee that they will turn out to be show quality. It just takes time on the mottleds to get their color in and they will also get more white each time they molt. A young bird that shows well will most likely get too much mottling and a lightly mottled youngster may grow out to be a beautiful adult.
these two pics are the exact same bird as a pullet and then as a hen (she's sunburnt in the bottom pic)
