Cochin Thread!!!

Does anyone know for sure how much black should be on a columbian cochin? Here's what we have.

These two have more black in them.

Hopefully, someone working with (Bantam) Blacks and Blues can answer this. Do the beaks and toes change color as the chicks get older? I hatched out a bunch - most have mostly black beaks, and the tops of their toes are black (bottom of feet are the correct yellow). I have both the sire and dam here - they both have the correct coloring on their beaks and toes. I know having black beaks and black toe tops are faults - will they grow out of it? A couple of them also have very dark combs. Right now, they are all around 3 to 5 weeks old. Has anyone seen this before?

Here's a couple of mine. they are out of Jamie Matts' line. One thing to watch for is clean saddles - they should be white and free of "smut".

(Actually, I was kindof pulling for that Exchequor Leghorn!!!) (Did I spell that correctly?)

Thanks Coopa! Erin's got awesome birds. Your Columbians are beautiful as well. I didn't realize so many of us here had Columbians. I love seeing all the pictures. You can never have too many Cochins. Oh, and I had to go peek at your roo in the contest. He's a beautiful boy, that's for sure. Congrats! And, Erin, you can send Caliente to me. You know, since he's not beautiful and all.
