Cochin Thread!!!

I have a black cochin rooster I somehow ended up with him from some tsc chicks a few years back. He is adorable and he's also the only rooster I have in my flock the rest are EE, BO, BR hens who have all gone broody from time to time and have never got any chicks? I know this is going to be a stupid question but can he mate with regular hens or could he just be sterile?

I just put an auction up on the BST area with my Mottled eggs. I seldom sell any from my birds but they have been laying so well and everything is pretty much hatching so I have a lot already this spring and can share. I have 3 pens going well and will probably ship out with eggs from all 3.
The girl in my avatar is my least typy, imo but a true sweetheart and is in one of the breeder pens. Most of you have seen my birds but I now have new roos to cover my other bloodlines.

I, personally, love lots of white but knowing that is not correct I do breed my overly mottled girls with my less mottled boys and vice versa. All my pens are put together according to type and then pattern, though. It actually works out fairly well now that I have purchased more to work with. I have acquired bloodlines from all over and each has their strengths to add to the pens.

I have a bantam roo and he tries to do it with the big girls all the time.

It is a funny site. IF they hold still and let him do the deed he has to keep scooching back until he is in the right place to be able to make the connection. Some times he grabs a mouth full of feathers and pulls some poor hen's head way back, holding on for balance. other times he balances on his own without holding on...I think he get the job done some times. It is just a matter of logistics probably more then fertility. Also, if he is very fluffy feathers could be blocking his success. Good luck getting it worked out.

All the birds on this page are very pretty. I have to do about one page every half hour . LOL I bought a sewing machine a couple months ago I think I should have bought a new computer instead. LOL

That MF on top is beautiful and the lemonsplash. The chocolate is wonderful and so are the mottleds. I want to jump on the eggs but have to think about it. I am still shy on hatching eggs as I have not had luck with them in the past. Not on the sellers part, just that I have a cheaper incubator and have not had the best of luck.

I have 2 black roosters. One of them I love everything about him except sometimes he has his tail downish. Drives me nuts. I think I read somewhere that if you let cochins roost too high they will change their form because of the roosting? Hmm Well I think he passed it on to one of his offspring. One minute they will look great, the next they will have their tail set kinda down as if resting?

LOL I put that new ckl in with the girls and I caught him doing the 2 sec. drill on the roost. lol But he couldnt balance and get in the right position. He never fell off the roost though.
