Cochin Thread!!!

Hello, my sister and I are just getting into showing bantam cochins and where wondering what everyone did to condition their birds. Wether you use wire cages or woodchips!
We are going to be showing Goldenlaced, Brown Reds and Lemon blue/splash bantam Cochins.

Thanks, any advice would be great! :D

At the Newnan show there was one brown/red cockeral and one lemon blue cockeral and they were both stunning birds...I think the males are always more stunning than the girls...

I use both. Both have their advantages. Regular wire is hard on foot feathers. I use a 1 x 1 coated wire that keeps clean and has no sharp edges to catch feathers as my cage base. For the rest of the cage you can use 1 x 2 wire and join it using rabbit cage making materials. It is work but satisfying. I like the finer wood chips as they absorb better than the coarser ones. I use that for floor pens. I have a thread on the coop and building about what I have done. Check it out and contact me for more information if needed.   https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/719671/new-building-for-my-birds

Loved your thread! A lot of hard work there but I bet it makes things way easier...

Oh and one more thing...I came home with an amazing black mottled cockeral from Judy Gantt...to go with my blue mottled pullet...Judy had a lot of birds showing and they were of course stunning...I can't even imagine the work that goes into bringing that many birds...4 was enough work for me...

I will be quiet now...can you tell I had a great time at the show....

Out of 12 eggs, only 2 are hatching :( I hope the person I bought them some will send me some for free, because she said that she would give me some if non hatched, maybe if the only 2 hatch she will send me some.
