Thanks all for the advice on my first broody hen. I plan on moving her this weekend. Right now the other pullets are younger and not laying yet. She is the matriach, and so far no one bothers her but we do plan on seperating her. Also, I will add no more eggs, she has seven from sunday & monday.

One other question:do I start the 21 days from Sunday?

Also - just in case I had order a new incubator and recieved it today.. So now I have two.

What is the longest you would hold eggs in the fridge before putting in incubator or broody hen?

That is too funny...I don't think I have ever seen that much snow...

I have, having lived in Maine and Colorado... and i'm glad i escaped.

heck, we had almost that much here last month, but fortunately it all melted off within 2-3 days. the chickens wouldn't come out of their coops for anything. not even scattered food. until hubby made a path with the bucket on the tractor for them. LOL

today started off dropping almost 2" by 9am this morning, it's all gone now and nearly 50 out.

long story really... dad was in hotel business so we bounced around a lot. 15 schools in 12 years, including 5 high schools... then 3 colleges and an equestrian school after my BS. met hubby while i was in wv.

maine, florida, maine, colorado, florida, kentucky, florida, maine, west virginia, new jersey, virginia...

maine, mostly bangor area with a bit in portland - graduated umaine in orono, 97.
south florida, mostly west boca (raton), but lived/worked/travelled from palm beach to ft lauderdale.
durango colorado - still 'kid in tow'
williamsburg ky (college 2 years)
parkersburg wv (equestrian school)
nj don't remember. i was there 6 weeks, which was 5 weeks too long IMO, thanks to psycho boss.
and va, near roanoke for the last 14 years.

Well, for starters I wouldn't put them in the fridge. I know there are folks that have had some success with hatching eggs that came from the fridge, but it's not good for a fertile egg. I would collect everyday and put them in an egg cartoon, large end up, pointy end down. Within reason hatching eggs can keep on the counter top for up to 10 days. Beyond 3 days you can put them in the incubator and they will do well if they're fertilized. If your hen has a few eggs that hatch and the rest of them are still incubating, I'd take the first chicks away from her and raise them in the house. Besides, chicks that are human raised make more docile, sweet birds as they mature.

lots of us do, some don't, but it helps to know who you're talking to... and i usually PM them because some people get pm alerts by email while they may not for regular threads...
