Cochin Thread!!!

Ok newbie question... I recently acquired 5 awesome bantam cochins and the pullets just started laying and I checked for fertility and they were fertile.

I set my bator up for a test batch...I put a weeks worth in as well as a test batch of my silkie eggs (my silkies are older)... As well as have some shipped eggs in the bator....

Well ALL eggs are developing nicely even the shipped eggs BUT none of the Cochin eggs even started to develop? They were fertile....is this because they are just new eggs? Young layers? I have two different Roos so both can't be infertile?
Natural fertility can be tricky in cochins, the heavy feathering gets in the way for the process. Plucking or trimming around the vent area can help in both the males and females . Artifical Insemination is another choice, which can be viewed on youtube.

I'm confused. How do you know the Cochin eggs were fertile if they never started to develop? Or had they started to develop when you candled them and then died?

Are you breaking eggs open to check the fertility, and then putting the rest in the incubator?

how do you know the eggs were fertile? just watching mating take place doesn't always mean that contact was actually made...

Your two babies are adorable, however they do not look like Cochins, but more like Porcelain D'uccles. Beside being the correct color for Porcelain D'uccles, they have muffs, and feathered feet. How many toes do they have, and where did you get them? TSC?

I've had D'uccles in the past and they are one of the sweetest chickens. You'll adore them.

Here they are at 8 days old. D'Uccle or Cochin?

They were not fertile or they would have developed and hatched like the other eggs. Fertility in Cochins is not something that counted on without our assistance.

Yes I was cracking the eggs open for a week to look for the little bulls eye and they all had them clear as day...
