Cochin Thread!!!

Can some of you cochin experts help me sex my 2 chicks. They are about 4 weeks old in the pics and I got them at the feed store, so they are hatchery chicks. They are golden laced, I think.
Thanks

They are quite young, but I would guess two pullets.

Thanks AndyCap. I guess I'll have to warm up to him. I just hope he doesn't become mean to my hens. He already pecks repeatedly at their feet. I do have one buff rock that stands up to him and sends him packing. It's really funny to watch. Any ideas on helping him to be a nice little rooster?
i am certainly no expert, luckily my boy is just awesome. He did go through a teenage stage where he would peck me if i tried to pick him up, that only lasted a month. Now he is the sweetest boy. Whenever he pecked me i picked him and up and walked around with him for a bit, then gave him some treats when he calmed down, not sure if that helped, or if he was just a nice roo all the time.

Hope your boy is friendly.

Ellie-Some of the other forums may help you better with rooster keeping. My tips which I can enforce because my birds aren't free ranged....

Don't let the rooster crow, breed or flog around you. Make sure he knows your dominant-and pick up & carry him around often. I will grab . room and just carry him under my arm while getting a scoop of feed etc.that way he is used to you being around-and knows your the dominant one of the flock.
Roosters have a great personality-and if worked with enough make great pets.

Im not sure if your guy is a bantam or not-but thought i should add, my experience when jusy starting with chickens is bantam hatchery roos can be mean, unmanageble and not represnt the breed properly-so be prepared if this is the case. Though I've never owned a hatchery stock Cochin so not sure if this is true for them. (But trust me when saying a tsc sebright attack to the face is not pleasant!!)

Thank you I will check it out. He is very independent so I will need to start working with him. My birds aren't exactly free ranged either. We have a fenced section of the yard (approx. 12 X 22) for the hens to separate them from the dogs. I give them mealworms, lots of greens, to eat.
