Ki4got, Sorry my quote button doesn't seem to want to work this morning.

Thank you your reply and the feedback. Five to six LF would be a good amount for me and I think I've (almost) decided to go with LF. Still curious about the size difference to other bantams. The Cochin bantams may be plenty big for me. Ugh, so confused.

Anyone else have currently have Silkies and Cochins and can weigh in on the size difference? Or better yet, have pictures? :D

I have both. My silkies tend to be a little taller, but the Cochins are wider. Regarding egg size, the Cochin eggs are definitely smaller.

Mama2my4... Thank you for replying. I must say that's not the answer I was expecting lol. With the large size of the LF Cochins, I was expecting the bantams to be a little bigger than other bantams...glad I asked ;).

Which means I decided correctly...I am picking up 20 LF Cochin eggs today! Yay, I'm so excited but I'm really nervous too. This will be my first time incubating. The bator is all set up and maintained a constant temp all through the night. Good grief I'm really hoping I don't screw this up but I kinda had to jump in with both feet. The only breeder near me is not hatching again until the fall but has plenty of eggs available. It would be a two hour drive for me but as luck would have it, she's visiting in my area today. Sooo, I jumped on it.

The eggs are a mixed batch of black, white, blue, and splash. Best part...the breeder took over a flock from a couple who had been showing these birds for 20+ years. I've seen their pictures and WOW these are gorgeous! Again, I'm so flipping excited I can't stand it! Now if I can just hatch them successfully. :/

Greetings all!

We adopted a blue cochin, before I realized it was a bantam. Would prefer a LF, but this one is very sweet - wish I had acreage so I could keep everyone!!! The vote is still out on what to do. I was hoping to get a second opinion on gender. I was thinking it was a pullet but with the appearance of pink wattles I'm not so sure now (we cannot keep roosters). Anyone care to chime in? I only had my cell phone to take pics with, please excuse the quality:

"Jackie" is a approximately 7 weeks old.

Looks like a Splash pullet to me.
