I'm glad you've got her in a protective run. Dogs, either neighbors or the owners own, are more dangerous to chickens than racoons and vermin do.

Figures, we have a leash law in our neighborhood and nobody uses it and there are little kids, and we have some neighbors down the road that have two dogs that will attack anything that comes down the road and sometimes they wonder the neighborhood and it makes me sick at my stomach because I get nervous, this in in the morning when we leave. So I pray that they won't bother my birds. When I'm home, I always load my shotgun when I see them coming down the road.

One comment on protecting birds. Chicken wire only keeps birds in. It does not seem to ever keep out a predator. A second heavier welded wire or a shotgun is about the only thing that will stop determined dog.

sounds like they aren't getting enough protein try switching to a higher protein food and feed black oil sun flower seeds good luck

We feed them good food and we have only had them since Saturday. But none of my other birds that I have do this. I will try the black oil sun flower seeds and chicken liver hopefully they will eat it these new girls are picky eaters

Ok, thank you for your help I will give both flocks meat so they can be 100%. I tried giving my original flock some bugs but they turned there nose up at it

My crazy girls they took the bugs then dropped it and left it on the ground. I will try other stuff though. The only bug I know they will eat is centipedes which is the one type of bug I'm terrified of spiders and everything else no problem but not centipedes. One was in the food bowl when I picked it up so I dropped the bowl at which one of my barred rocks saw and came over and eat it

as my other girls including my Cochin came over to play chase the chicken I want what you have game

Sorry to keep bothering you guys but my new Cochins also have a runny nose it clear fluid and there waste is a little runny to runny or at least if think you would consider it runny it also smells very bad. Which I put about that cause on a old page people asked about that .They eat a lot, drink a lot and for the most part are active except one she walks around outside and eats fine but when I put her back up she lays down and rarely gets up even when she eats and drinks sometimes she just lays down to eat and drink . I heard on another page that Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother will help to stop the runny nose. Do any of you know if this will work.Thanks

hope you have them quarantined from the rest of your flock... that's not a good thing typically. most respiratory problems can be very contagious.

Lockdown today for our eggs in the bator. We have 2 cochin eggs in there that are looking good so far, fingers crossed! it's so hard to tell cochin eggs from our bantam Phoenix eggs. Same size and color, but different shape.
