Cochin Thread!!!

Andy, I disagree with you about having SQ birds; I think some of yours are or may be appropriate for the show halls.

Ditto! I'm new to Cochins and am constantly researching. I love coming to this thread and seeing new pics of your birds. I showed my husband the pic of your silver laced and he actually got excited. I have not been able to get him as interested as I am about our chickens...until he saw your pic. We are now getting silver laced eggs because of the beautiful birds you've raised. :).

Quote: I had contemplated that too... LOL and with the pattern gene all there then there's just melanizing and Columbian to get in place... and lose the mahogany. or keep mahogany to work with blr-cochins... LOL

I keep coming back around to blue laced reds. I've got a couple chicks from her and my blrw bantam roo growing out just to see what they end up like. foot feathering is sparse and they have rose combs, but he's got a cochin-ish cushion, so maybe they might be workable. LOL never know. one is black based tho so will be going to swap. no sense trying to do this without all the right genes in place. IF I do...

she was only in the blrw pen as 'second fiddle' for the one hen I had, which I no longer have, so the roo is ranging again. debating if I get some more bantam blrw or just scrap that project and go with the cochins. LOL

Hi Missyktsm thanks for the kind words but i think you are thinking about someone else, i raise white, black, partridge and mottled partridge. No Silvers yet.!

i know Craig(Black Cochin Bantams) had a couple, and Ki4got has some on the go. Perhaps it was one of them?

Well now I think I'm going crazy...I'll have to go back and find the pic. I will still say that you have some gorgeous birds! I'm a confessed lurker and there are several of you who post regularly that I pay particular attention to. I like learning from your discussions but I love learning from your critiques and postings of your own birds.

Now to go back and figure out who posted that beautiful silver laced...

i think both would be fascinating projects, cant wait to see which way you will go.

I have SL but I think these are the only pictures of them I ever posted on here. I do need to take more pictures. I am sure that these are not the sort of memorable birds someone would remember.

Maybe Karen's (Ki4Got)?

well, I like him, but he's far from perfect... I believe he's heterozygous on the pattern gene, but I could be wrong. but his edges aren't as clear as they could be. his cushion could be fuller too. that and he needs to moult badly. he looks like someone rolled him in a mud pit. his white is all stained from our clay.

but i'm eager to see what I can get from him.
