Cochin Thread!!!

What a beautiful pair of blacks. We are hoping to pick up a bigger variety of cochins in the spring which will definately include some blacks. Right now we only have 2 cuckoo hens , a buff bantam pullet and a birchen colored EE x Cochin hen. Thanks for sharing the pic.

My blue Cochin hens are 24 weeks and three days old. I haven't had the first egg! Is this normal? I read that Cochins begin laying later than other breeds… What say ye, Cochin peeps? I'm trying to be patient!

Yes, my girl was 8 months before she laid her first egg

Just got my first cochins a couple of months ago and I just love them. My little black rooster is a little skittish and he doesn't get along with other roosters, but that's o k because he will be with just his mate in a breeding pen. I aquired several little pairs and I am so excited to see them grow out.

This is Lokie.... can anyone tell me what color he would be considered?

This is Johnny(frizzle) and he has a smooth mate named June (just haven't got a pic of her yet).

This is Joni and ChaChi

This is Alice and Jasper

I have several more I will try to get pics of them later. Hope everyone has a great day.

Mottled, Frizzle Mottled, Partridge (although the markings are poor), Black (from what I can see, pic is a bit dark).

We just got our first pair of cochins three weeks ago - a buff and a blue. They came home when they were a day old, and now they're gigantic and getting big-girl feathers. I am ASTOUNDED by the fact that they seem to grow overnight. We raised a polish and a maran this spring from hatchlings, and there is NO comparison at all. The maran and polish are obviously entirely different breeds and smaller, but they were a good six weeks old before they were the size of our cochin girls.

Cochese is the buff, and we named the blue Dumpling. Dumpling already has amazing fluffy chicken leg warmers. Cochese is just silly looking all around. At the rate they're growing they'll be outside way sooner than later!

Oh, and as if baby chickens aren't exciting enough, the day after they came home I found a ring box in their warming box - that's how my fiance proposed. With the baby peepers!
