Cochin Thread!!!

No, I didn't realize how much it costs because I bought my original chickens from a hatchery and just chose them for the looks on the charts. Then because I didn't have any specific breed in mind, I just let them breed any which way. I still don't care if my black Cochin rooster gets any color of other Cochin hen but I just want Cochins, large fowl, not bantam. LOL

Ideal has a section that says they have pullets but 2 other hatcheries say you can't sex Cochins at 1 day old. I am going to get some babies from Ideal and hope that I get mostly pullets from the ones they say are pullets. I do not expect that they will 100% be pullets but if most of them are, I will be happy and as you say, cockerels are good food. LOL

If you are buying Bantam Cochins Ideal Poultry does not sex them at all, so you have a 50% either way.

No, not bantams. Assorted Standard Cochins. On that page it has a listing for straight run, pullets and cockerels. I am really hoping for 3/4 or more of them to be pullets.

Oh OK I misunderstood. They are supposed to be pretty good at LF, Hope you get all girls. I believe most hatcheries are at least 95/98 right

LOL I hope so. I think I will buy a total of 20, one of them "supposed" to be a cockerel. Wouldn't it be funny if I got 2 or 3 cockerels out of the pullets and the cockerel turned out to be a pullet? LOL

My Cochin babies..they are 2 months old...I have Lemon Blue, Blue, & Splash...& one that is a weirdo..I guess he's a pyle?? lol
